The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for the first time certified special covers for the transportation of goods (Cargo Seat Bags) in the cabins of passenger planes of the Airbus A320 family.
These covers were developed by two companies from Lithuania: aviation components and interior solutions supplier Colibri Aero together with J & C Aero, which specializes in comprehensive solutions for aircraft cabin modifications.
Cargo Seat Bag, in fact, is a cover made of special reinforced fabrics measuring 76x76x147 cm. It is attached with special straps to the three-seater seat unit and allows you to transport up to 252 kg of cargo - 75 kg on each seat, and 9 kg - under the seat .
The press service of Colibri Aero said that the installation and subsequent removal of the cover can be easily performed by the aircraft crew or airline personnel, that is, there is no need for the participation of technical specialists.
Cargo Seat Bags are installed in minutes and can carry a wide range of cargo types, from mail, household goods, electronics to medical equipment and other types of humanitarian aid.
"In February 2020, amid growing concern over what is now known as the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to commit additional resources to the project to get the modification certified as quickly as possible," commented J & C Aero Commercial Director Laurinas Skukauskas.
"Although the passenger traffic has decreased sharply, many airlines continue to operate their passenger planes for the delivery of goods - both ordinary goods and medical equipment, such as masks, respirators, etc. The possibility of prompt application of temporary modifications of passenger cabins for cargo purposes can allow aircraft operators to increase cargo capacity, thereby adapting operations to the growing demand for cargo air transportation between countries and regions, "said General Director of Colibri Aero Andryus Norkevičius.
