The International Air Transport Association (IATA) plans to create a medical travel pass (IATA Travel Pass)

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) plans to create a medical travel pass (IATA Travel Pass), which is expected to facilitate the safe opening of borders.

“States are beginning to use testing as a means of limiting the risks of the spread of COVID-19 when opening their borders to travelers from countries without quarantine measures. The IATA Travel Pass will manage and verify the flow of necessary information about testing or vaccines between countries, airlines, laboratories and travelers," the association said in a statement.

The development of such a solution is led by IATA together with the International airlines group, which unites British airlines and Iberia. Trials of the pass are planned for the end of this year, full launch - for the first quarter of 2021.

"Today, the borders are closed for two locks. Testing is the first key to allowing international travel without quarantine measures. The second key is the global information infrastructure required to securely manage, share and verify the test data, relevant identity cards of travelers in accordance with border control requirements. This is the work of IATA Travel Pass," said IATA Director General Oleksandr de Juniac.
