How to stop bleeding correctly – life-saving knowledge

Critical blood loss is one of the main causes of death – during combat operations or in civilian life. At the front, 80-90% of wounded with critical bleeding die on the way to the hospital, and more than 2,000 people die every year in accidents. At the same time, doctors have only 30 seconds to several minutes to save a life in case of massive bleeding.

The largest Ukrainian tourniquet manufacturer “SICH Ukraine” said that there is only one reliable way to stop external critical bleeding. This is the application of a tourniquet. The principle of its operation is quite simple: a loop is formed around the limb, which is tightened, compressing the vessels.

When choosing a reliable tourniquet, you should pay attention to certification and compliance with modern standards. It is important to check the quality of the materials:

  • • The sling (inner tape) must be strong and elastic to withstand significant loads, but at the same time not to accidentally injure.
  • • The clamp must securely hold the collar in a twisted position so that the taut sling, which compresses the injured vessels of the limb, does not unwind.
  • • The tightening mechanism must be convenient even in extreme conditions and in any weather. And also for self-application with one hand.

In addition, it is worth avoiding cheap fakes that can fail at a critical moment and lead to loss of a limb or death.
